A Segmentation Method Using Multiscale and Multidirectional Matched Filters Based on Dyadic Wavelet Transform for Finger Vein Pattern Extractionfile
In this paper an efficient automatic method for robust segmentation of finger vessel-network and vein pattern extraction from infrared images acquired by a low-cost monochrome or multichannel camera, is proposed. After brightness normalization, the fingerprint lines are eliminated using the 2D dimensional discrete wavelet transformation. A set of twelve directional kernels is constructed, based on a dyadic wavelet transform, for each scale and is used to enhance the directional properties of veins. From maximum filters’ response along scale and direction, a neighborhood thresholding derives a binary segmented image to produce reliable patterns of finger veins. A post-processing module is used in case where low-quality images are to be segmented. Preliminary evaluation experiments of the proposed method demonstrate a number of advantages, compared to recently published methods.

Distributed Algorithms for Maximizing the Lifetime of WSNs with Heterogeneity for Adjustable Sensing Rangesfile
In this paper, we study the impact of heterogeneity on homogeneous protocols. Most of the protocols for increasing the lifetime of wireless sensor networks are designed for homogeneous networks. The load balancing protocol with adjustable sensing range (ALBPS) and deterministic energy efficient protocol with adjustable sensing range (ADEEPS), are two important homogeneous protocols. In this work, we incorporate 3-level heterogeneity to the ALBPS and ADEEPS and the resultant protocols are named as heterogeneous load balancing protocol with adjustable sensing range (HALBPS) and heterogeneous deterministic energy efficient protocol with adjustable sensing range (HADEEPS), respectively. We compare the performance of the ALBPS and ADEEPS protocols with that of the HALBPS and HADEEPS protocols. The simulation results indicate that the heterogeneous protocols further prolong the network lifetime.

Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm for Designing and Controlling a Three-level Inverter without Balancing DC Bus Bar Voltagesfile
This work deals with a Neutral Point Clamped multilevel inverter without balancing the voltage boundaries of DC bank capacitors and without dedicated EMC filters. To achieve this goal, a control over Modulated Hysteresis Current and a specific low-pass passive filter are implemented. The control strategy is associated with low and constant frequency mono carrier signal. The different components of the filter and the ones of the control are simultaneously designed by a genetic algorithm. The simulated and experimented values of voltage THD, current THD, and load power factor, underline the improvements brought by the present approach.

Ultraviolet Photo-detective Characteristics of Al/LPD-Oxide/ n-type GaN with Photo-electro- chemical Wet Etching-based Rough GaNfile
A room-temperature anisotropic photo-electro-chemical etching process for n-type GaN films using a potassium hydroxide (KOH, pH=1.09~1.39) and phosphoric acid (H3PO4, pH=12.60~12.90) in the stirrer solution and Deuterium lamp illumination is described. The process provides anisotropic etch profiles and high etch rates >240 nm/ min at moderate light intensities ~17.3 mW/cm2 @237 nm in the H3PO4 (pH=1.09) solution. The etch rate and photocurrent are characterized as a concentration of the stirred solutions. In this work, two types of metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures were fabricated. One is the semiconductor layer with as-grown n-GaN (Sample B), and the other is the n-GaN surface with photo-electro-chemical etching (Sample A). The oxide layer for both these devices were fabricated using silicon dioxide insulator grown by a low-temperature (30-40℃) and reliable method of liquid phase deposition (LPD). For an incident light wavelength of 366 nm with an intensity of 4.15 mW/cm2 and…

Modelling of a Hybrid Solar Panel with Solar Concentrationfile
A hybrid solar installation equipped with a holographic concentrator allows converting the solar radiation into thermal energy and photovoltaic energy. A modeling of the different energy transfers and efficiencies is presented in order to estimate the influence on the collected energy of the parameters such as solar radiation, environmental temperature and characteristics of the various elements making up the sensor. The obtained efficiency of the hybrid solar panel is 63%. This analysis is the first step before the realization of an experimental facility and before a more detailed modelling.

An Energy Efficient ATM System Using AES Processorfile
This paper presents a highly secured ATM banking system using an optimized Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. Two levels of security are provided in this proposed design. Firstly we consider the security level at the client side by providing biometric authentication scheme along with a password of 4-digit long. Biometric authentication is achieved by considering the fingerprint image of the client. Secondly we ensure a secured communication link between the client machines to the bank server using an optimize energy efficient AES processor. The fingerprint image is the data for encryption process and 4-digit long password is the symmetric key for the encryption process. To get a low power consuming ATM machine, an optimized AES algorithm is proposed in this paper. In this system biometric and cryptography techniques are used together for person authentication to improve the security level . The proposed design is secured against all kinds of attacks. The design of the proces…
