An Approach of Underwater Targets Detection via Backscattering Noise

The backward scatter that occurred with underwater light spreading is very strong, and it can occur a serious background noise in underwater imaging which causes underwater image fuzzy. And it is difficult to detect underwater targets. So how to detect underwater targets with the low Signal to Noise Ratio is the question that people concern. The traditional methods of underwater dim targets detection have some limitations on image contrast, gray scale or size of target, and so on. We deduced the model of backscattering noise by studying the characteristics of underwater image, and then we used the model to detect the underwater targets with low SNR. The results of the experiment showed that this method was effective. http://www.sjie.org/paperInfo.aspx?ID=323
