KfW are Germany's leading development bank and are a part of KfW Bankengruppe. KfW work on behalf of the German Government, helping to achieve the goals set for German Development Cooperation

BMZ (German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) was created in 1961. Since then KfW has been carrying out German Financial Cooperation (FC), formerly designated as capital support. In the early 1970s the BMZ was assigned broad responsibility for all development policy tasks. Until that time the Federal Ministry of Economics had been in charge of bilateral and multilateral capital support.
