In 2014, the Érudit platform initiated a major shift in its business model, switching from selling subscriptions under a 24-month embargo to an open access model based on a partnership with libraries. To adapt the model to the Canadian context, a study was undertaken to obtain insights as to the socio-economic situation of Canadian scholarly journals as well as to explore the pros and cons of the partnership business model and its possible impact on the scholarly journals disseminated by the platform.
